The Centre set high standards throughout and candidates are given every opportunity and support to reach these. Those candidates therefore reaching a 'Pass' level are without doubt fully competent and I believe will be above average of those applying for an SIA license.

Finalists - Gloucestershire Business Awards 2011 |
|
Monday, 10 October 2011 10:18 |
|
Being one of the three finalists in The Gloucestershire Citizen & Echo Business Awards 2011 [Apprentice Development], that took place on Thursday 6th October 2011 at The Centaur, Cheltenham RaceCourse, is a massive achievement for Glevum. We are all very proud to have done this well.
Although we may not have carried off the top prize as we did last year when we won in [The Best Use of Digital Technology] category, this will just go on to have our training department work even harder and support many more persons throughout the county. (Top prize went to Messier Buggatti- Dowty).
We are proud to say we train more than both of the other companies in our category, the other finalist being SPP Pumps (Coleford) and have created more than 750 security apprentices in the last two years with many going on to secure employment in the region and begin their journeys in what for many will have been either the start of a career or a change of career.
We have gained some great publicity for the company through this process and even though we did not manage to become category winners last night, we know all to well that local business and employment services in the county are fully aware of what we do with our training product and will carry on supporting us so we can go on supporting those who need our help the most – Job Seekers. |

Age restriction for BTEC L2 Award in Door Supervision (QCF) |
|
Thursday, 22 September 2011 15:08 |
|
For a limited period, till the end of February 2012, leaners aged 16 & 17 years of age can take the qualification. This change is effective immediately.
This temporary arrangement is primarily aimed at learners / centres involved with the Bridging the Gap initiative for the 2012 Olympics. This change will allow centres to manage the large numbers of learners that need to be trained over the next few months and has the support of the Security Industry Authority and Ofqual, the qualification regulator.
Licensing - There is no change to the current licensing arrangements:
- Learners will not be allowed to get a licence until they are 18.
- The requirement for learners to apply for a licence within 3 years of achieving a qualification still applies.

Training Academy - 'Centre of Excellence within their Vocational Area' |
|
Wednesday, 14 September 2011 14:54 |
|
A Quality Review (2011) was recently undertaken at Glevum Training Academy. The report from EDEXCEL reference the review follows:
The Academic staff and administration at the Centre are totally conversant with all the policies and practices of BTEC and encourage the learners to fully embrace the opportunities that the BTEC has to offer. This is evident in the quality of resources available to learners. Specialist and general resources were available, with appropriate and fair access arrangements open to all regardless of ability. Learners progress can easily be tracked, the assessment process can be reliably verified and there is evidence of safety of the certification. The centre maintains accurate and up-to-date records of learner progression and achievement. These were witnessed and allow for the transition of learner achievement to certification claims. The quality of resources available at the Centre, combined with the level of commitment of the academic and administrative staff and their commitment to BTEC processes suggest the centre could be described as a centre of excellence within their vocational area.

Door Supervisors – Would Physical Intervention Training help you? |
|
Friday, 26 August 2011 13:19 |
|
Knowing how to escort people from premises safely is important to door supervisors, who may have to deal with this type of situation as part of their role. Disengagement skills are also useful if, for example, a customer has grabbed hold of you. The SIA developed physical intervention training that is included in the nationally-recognised door supervisor training. It is a compulsory part of the new qualification introduced last year. However, it is not just available to those who are qualifying now. If you trained prior to the introduction of the new qualification, you can take this training on a voluntary basis as the physical intervention training is offered as a standalone unit. By taking this unit, you can make sure you are aware of how to use these techniques, helping you to manage difficult situations with minimal risk of injury to yourself and members of the public. The unit comprises a day’s training and is available via Glevum Training Academy.
