I don’t want to sound as if I am the grim reaper of doom and gloom at this time of the year, but the facts are true. When we are faced with cutbacks we often cut back on what we believe are the luxuries of running our day to day businesses, the nice to have but we think we can afford to do without. For some companies it is often security that is one of the top ten luxuries to be cut back during these hard times, as buyers sometimes can’t see what they are getting for their investment. However I disagree with this logic, security measures play an important role within the daily running of any business or home life. Security may be the hidden tool but comes into its own right in every person’s daily working life when operated effectively, just like the first aid box sat on the wall year after year. Just like security, the plaster in the first aid box has an important role to play when called upon to perform its task. As I said that I disagree with the logic behind businesses cutting back on their security within the current climate, however saying that, the security industry only has itself to blame due to its chequered past history and bad representation of being perceived as cowboys. However at the end of every rainbow comes a silver lining and with the birth of the 2001 Private Security Act, our silver lining has gone a long way to cleaning up the private security industry over the past six years. The Security Industry Authority has been given the task to ensure that the private security industry is made to clean-up its own act by making us accountable by law. The Security Industry Authority has two main duties; one is the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry, the other is to manage the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria supported by British Standards. Glevum Security achieved the magic score that takes us into the top 5% of Quality Manned Guarding Companies within the UK. This achievement is recognised by the Security Industry Authority through its Approved Contractor Scheme. This achievement has recognised Glevum Security Ltd as an Approved Contactor Scheme Star Performer according to the rating set out on Security Infologue.
